For customers and makers

How ratings work

After every order that's been received, the customer rates the maker and the maker rates the customer, with stars only, from 1 to 5. Only people who've had a real order can rate, both ratings count at the same time and nobody can change theirs. Nothing about the person who rates is published. Customers see a maker's average on their offers once the maker has at least 3 ratings, and that rating is the only thing that decides the order of offers.

A rating, step by step

  1. 1

    The order arrives

When the order is marked as «Received», rating opens for both sides: the customer rates the maker and the maker rates the customer.

  2. 2

    14 days to rate

Each side rates once, from 1 to 5 stars. There are no comments. We'll remind you after 3 and 10 days.

  3. 3

    Once sent, it stays

A rating can't be changed once it's sent.

  4. 4

    Both count together

Neither rating counts until both sides have rated or the 14 days are up.

Why ratings are blind

If one side's rating counted first, the other could answer with theirs: rating higher to keep things friendly, or lower out of spite. Because both count together, each side rates the order as it went, without knowing what the other gave.

What's shown and who sees it

A maker's average and how many ratings they haveThe maker, in their own dashboard
A customer's star averageMakers who receive that customer's projects
Who gave each rating and for which orderFabrishare only

Nothing about the person who rates is published: not their name, their country or what they ordered.

Why the average isn't shown until 3 ratings

With a single rating, the average is that rating. If a maker's first customer gave them 2 stars, everyone else would see «★ 2.0» on every offer, and a lone 5 would count as much as fifty.

So until a maker has 3 ratings, nothing is shown: no average, and no count of ratings or orders.

How ratings affect the order of offers

Adjusted average = (total stars + 12) ÷ (number of ratings + 3)

The order in which a customer sees offers depends only on each maker's rating. We don't use the plain average but an adjusted one: every maker starts as if they already had 3 ratings of 4 stars, and their own ratings are added to those.

Maker's ratingsAdjusted averageAverage
None yet4.00—
One 5-star rating4.255.0
One 1-star rating3.251.0
Ten 5-star ratings4.775.0

That way a single rating doesn't weigh too much, for better or worse: a maker with one 5-star rating doesn't overtake one with ten, and one bad experience doesn't sink anyone.

If two makers are tied, the order is random but fixed for each project. Price, lead time, the maker's plan and the number of orders don't affect the order.

Rules and what we remove

Only with a real order

Only someone with a Fabrishare order marked as «Received» can rate, and only once per order. So every rating comes from a real job.

Honest and about the order

Rate how it went: the part, the lead time, the communication. It is not allowed to:

  • Offer or ask for anything in return for a rating: discounts, gifts, refunds, another order…
  • Pressure the other side to rate in a particular way.

What we remove

We remove ratings obtained in exchange for something, and ratings that otherwise break these rules, and record why. A removed rating no longer counts towards the average or the order of offers.

A low, honest rating isn't removed. If you know of one that breaks the rules, let us know through the contact page.

If you delete your account

The ratings you've received are deleted. The ratings you've given still count towards the other person's average; since nothing about the person who rates is published, nobody can see they were yours.

The privacy policy explains what data is processed and why; the full rules are in the legal notice.

The same rules for both sides

If you need something printed, post your project and get offers from makers in the network. If you do 3D printing, join the maker waiting list (it can take weeks): no average is shown until you have 3 ratings, and for the order of offers you count as if you had three 4-star ratings.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my rating?

No. Once it's sent, it can't be changed. You have 14 days from when the order is marked as «Received», so there's no rush: think it over before you send it.

Can I leave a comment?

No. Ratings are stars only, from 1 to 5. If you'd like to tell us something about an order, write to us through the contact page.

What happens if I don't rate?

Nothing: rating is optional. After 14 days the window closes and the other side's rating counts, if they left one.

Why can't I see a maker's average?

Because they don't have 3 ratings yet. Until then nothing is shown, not even how many orders they've done.

Does Fabrishare remove bad ratings?

No. We remove ratings obtained in exchange for something or that break the rules, never for being low. A low, honest rating stays.

What do makers see about me as a customer?

Only your star average. Who rated you and for which order is known only to Fabrishare.
